The Best Game of 2011: Skyrim

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

I've played a lot of games in 2011, but one of them took the #1 spot, and that game was Skyrim. The game is very adventurous, and I spent many hours playing it. I decided to crown this game as the best game of 2011, seen from my perspective. I decided to write a small review, in which I will talk about the Gameplay, the Graphics, and the Sound.

Gameplay:
You are Dovahkiin, the Dragonborn. The main goal of the game is to re-balance Skyrim. You can play in first, or third person, and you can either do quests, Free-Roam, or just mess around. Skyrim is an RPG, which is definitely worth trying, you have various skills to level up (Like Smithing, Archery, etc.) and those skills can make the game easier for you, you also have a ton of weapons to use, and if you're not fond of melee, or archery, there's always magic! There is a new element in the game, called "Shouts" you can unlock shouts by learning them (You'll learn most of them during quests.) And you can use those shouts by using your Dragon Soul on the words, which are obtained by killing dragons.

Graphics:
The Graphics in Skyrim are outstanding, to give you an impression, here's a comparison between the Xbox, Ps3, and PC:

There's definitely a difference between the three of them, and the PC obviously wins, but don't let Graphics cloud your judgement! The gameplay alone could be a reason to buy this amazing game.

Sound:
The sound in Skyrim is good, that's all I can say about it. The Music is amazing, and they made sure that every experience had the right Music to go along with it, the voice acting is also very good, and the Sound-Effects in general are good.

Scores:
Gameplay: 10/10
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 9/10
Total: 9.3

Game News: Gears of War 3

Friday, July 15, 2011

It's been quite a while since I made a new post, so here it is! Gears of War 3 is soon to be released ( 20 september 2011)

Known Multiplayer functions:
  • Online Versus Multiplayer
  • Online Co-Op Multiplayer

Just like Gears of War 2, it will only be released on the Xbox 360, the game uses the same engine as Gears of War 2, which will make the Gameplay feel more natural. There will also be a new team member, a female actually. Her name is Anya, and the player will be able to control her. Since there is not much known about the game, I will keep it short. Stay tuned, because I'm going to write a lot more about this game!

Game Review: Centipede

Monday, July 4, 2011

It's been a while, but I decided to review another classic!

Reason:
I got this game when I was about 8, I just couldn't complete it alone. So I always invited a friend over to play it with me, but we still couldn't beat the game. There would always be this one level that we couldn't beat, so I decided to grab my old CD, and install it again. I'm quite good at the game now, so I think it's time for a little review!

Gameplay:
You are a little guy named Wally, your village is under the attack by centipedes! Your goal is to destroy all of them, and restore peace. However, it's a really hard task because you'll have to deal with all kind of other enemies too! Your main enemies are obviously the centipedes, each time you enter a level, centipedes will spawn. It's your goal to make sure the centipedes do not destroy the village, the game can be played in Top-down mode, or a behind the Shoulder like style. Here are screenshots of both perspectives:

Behind the Shoulder:

Top-down:
Screenshots are from Gamespot.com, I do not own them.

Graphics:
Hmm, this is a hard one. The game got released on different platforms, but I'm going to talk about the PC graphics. The PC Graphics are quite nice for it's time, a very low amount of polygons has been used for the models, but that makes a lot of sense since the PC version got released in 1999. Conclusion: Nice graphics for it's time.

Sound:
The sounds are bad, period. Even for it's time. However this should not ruin the fun!

Scores:
Gameplay: 7/10
Graphics: 6/10
Sound: 4/10
Total: 5.7

Game Review: Hogs of War

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Today I will be reviewing the old, but precious game: Hogs of War!

Reason:
About 5 years back, my father bought this game for me, I did not really enjoy it at first, but after playing it a while I started to enjoy it! After that switch, I spent many hours playing Hogs of War, and after all those years, I decided to play it one more time.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is quite easy, it's like Worms, but in 3D. You have several Game-modes (Singleplayer, Multiplayer, Sudden Death) The Singleplayer contains missions, but you also have the option to play a match on a random generated map, which is a great feature!  In mission-mode, it's all about survival and skills. You'll have to wipe out the entire enemy team to win, you can collect medals while playing a mission, this will give you extra promotion points after completing a mission (You can promote your hogs to several classes, which will give you more weapons and health.) The game is turn based, in the PC version, the AI Hogs will not move, but on the PS1 version, they do.

Graphics:
The graphics actually suprised me, it looked really good for a PS1/Old PC game, just take a look at this screenshot for a nice impression:

Sound:

The sound is quite good, but not perfect. The voices are done by Rik Mayall and Marc Silk, the music is done by Chris Sweetman. On the PS1, AI teams have their own tunes, and on the pc they use, just like the player, voices by Rik Mayall.

Scores:

Gameplay: 8/10
Graphics: 7/10
Sound: 6/10
Total: 7/10
